Temporary License Plates in MA

Nothing beats the feeling of accomplishment and satisfaction you get after leaving the lot with your new car.  Whether it is brand new or just new to you, you hope that car will stay with you for a while.  With the amount of time and research that goes in to purchasing a new automobile, it can be expected that you are content with your purchase.  In a recent study, more people spend more time researching information on a new car than looking for mortgage rates.

For some, they travel across state lines to get a specific brand or save money on an excellent deal. However, when you purchase a car from another state, you cannot drive in Massachusetts with a temporary license plate.  Without getting into the judicial jargon, Chapter 90 Section 9 states that a Massachusetts resident must register his or her car in Massachusetts, not in another state.  This is important because the law allows for temporary license plates to be accepted on cars from other states, as long as the operator is not from Massachusetts.

So when you leave the lot or pick up a new car, make sure you have a valid license plate attached or you could find yourself down $100 for the first offense and $1,000 for the next offense.  After purchasing a car, obtaining tickets and additional bills is not an ideal situation.

Another task that must be accomplished before taking the car on the road is having it insured.  Under Massachusetts state law, all automobile operators must have car insurance.  Luckily, this process is made easy with Encharter Insurance’s friendly staff who know what coverage is best for you.  Covering all of your needs is their biggest concern.  Whether it is the necessary Amherst MA auto insurance or Amherst MA personal umbrella insurance, they offer experience and an open office to help you.

So before you make that important purchase, give an Encharter agent a call at (888) 865-1244 and register your new plates.

Amherst MA: Best College Town in America

One year ago, Amherst, MA was named the best college town in America.  With the amount of competition in the United States, this was quite an honor for the town and the nearby universities.  Many factors were considered when choosing Amherst, including the five college consortium, downtown Amherst, nearby Hadley, Northampton, and Belchertown, the PVTA, and large number of events hosted by the five colleges.

The Five College Consortium (which includes UMass Amherst, Amherst College, Hampshire College, Smith College, and Mt. Holyoke College) contains 28,000 undergraduate students who are all linked by the PVTA, a free bus service.  The town and surrounding areas cater to the abundance of residents within the age of 18 to 24 years old, but Amherst also has a large percentage of adults with graduate level degrees at 43 percent.  Also, the surrounding area has ten museums, a mall, plenty of coffee shops, and restaurants covering all cuisines.

The local businesses are vital to the praise Amherst receives from students, alumni, and visitors.  The Black Sheep is a delectable deli and every student knows to stop by Antonio’s pizza for a unique slice or order wings from the Hangar for dinner.  Cafés, pizza shop, fast food, delivery, and food from all over the world is what makes Amherst great to make your stomach happy.

Encharter Insurance is proud to represent the Amherst area for the citizens and businesses of Amherst insurance needs.  Encharter offers personal insurance as well as business insurance for complete coverage.  Stop by our Amherst office right next to Rafter’s at 25 University Drive Amherst, MA 01002 or give us a call at (888) 865-1244.

Skunk Remedy for Dogs

Amherst Ma Umbrella InsuranceI was reminded early this morning of a rather unpleasant experience with my dog when I was much younger. I loved that German Shepherd and she loved to chase skunks. This one particular time, the skunk got her pretty bad. It took forever to wash her coat down and the oils must have traveled up into her nasal cavity because she never smelled the same again. So, here is a remedy that will hopefully work for you should you find yourself in a similar situation, courtesy of About.com:

Ingredients:

Clean plastic mixing containers and utensils

1 quart of 3% Hydrogen Peroxide (from your local drugstore)

                ¼ cup of baking soda

1 to 2 teaspoons liquid soap

For very large pets, 1 quart of tepid tap water may be added

  • Wash pet after exposure, working solution into the fur. Leave for about 5 minutes or until the odor is gone. Rinse and repeat if necessary.
  • Try to keep the solution out of the eyes and if you have cuts on your hands, wear gloves.
  • Rinse with tepid tap water.
  • Pour the spent solution down the drain with running water.
  • Never, ever, store solution in a closed container—will build pressure and cause container to burst.

Of course if your dog enjoys chasing skunks, he probably enjoys chasing other things, like the mail man or the neighbors’ small children. Protect your friends and neighbors by keeping your dog on a leash and take extra precaution when you have guests. Protect yourself by purchasing an Amherst MA Personal Umbrella Insurance policy from Encharter Insurance. The additional liability coverage offered by an Umbrella Insurance policy will protect you from the potential losses of a lawsuit in the event of an accident on your property.
